Experior Labs tests a broad range of fiber optic and electrical components that include fiber, wire, cable, connector and harness assemblies, as well as switches and a range of other passive optical components, including closures and terminals. Experior Labs’ environmental test laboratory features a range of optical and electrical measurement systems with a capacity of hundreds of optical switch channels for testing both, multimode and singlemode components.

MIL-STD-790 Certification

Experior is an approved MIL-STD-790 test lab certified by Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Land and Maritime (formerly Defense Supply Center Columbus) under the Commercial Laboratory Suitability Program. To earn certification, Experior has demonstrated an effective quality program which adheres to military and internal requirements for qualification and reliability testing.

Fiber Optic and
Electrical Cable Testing

MIL-PRF-29504

MIL-PRF-29504 (General Specification for Fiber Optic Termini) testing aims to qualify removable crimp and epoxy type fiber optic termini (singlemode and multimode). Both the pin and socket components are tested. Qualified termini per this performance requirement can then be used in MIL-PRF-28876 fiber optic connectors to make flexible mating and un-mating possible.

MIL-PRF-49291

Connectors (idealistically those applicable to the Department of Defense) use singlemode and multimode fibers. The optical fiber and connector tested to MIL-PRF-49291 (General Specification for Optical Fiber) must have the capacity to transmit signals from a source to a destination while exposed to hazards of radiation and harsh climates in military and aerospace applications.

MIL-PRF-85045

Experior Laboratories is qualified to test fiber optic cables in accordance with MIL-PRF-85045 and various slash sheets covering specific requirements for individual cable variants. These fiber optic cables can be constructed using buffered fibers, OFCC (Optical Fiber Cable Components) that are not grouped into bundles, buffered fibers or OFCC that grouped into bundles with bundle jackets or binders, with fiber ribbons, and/or hollow tubes or ducts.

MIL-PRF-28876

Samples are exposed to a simulated environment such as a naval ship to test the connector’s mating durability and optical performance. Testing to MIL-PRF-28876 (General Specification for Fiber Optic Circulars Connector, Plug and Receptacle Style) qualifies circular plug and receptacle style fiber optic connectors with multiple removable termini for the use of a wide variety of naval ships.

MIL-DTL-38999

MIL-DTL-38999 testing aims to qualify four series of circular, environment resistant, electrical connectors using removable crimp or fixed hermetic solder contacts with singlemode and multimode fibers.

MIL-PRF-64266

Experior Laboratories is qualified to test fiber optic connectors to the newly released MIL-PRF-64266 specification formerly known as NGCON (Next Generation Connector). This connector meets the requirements of both NAVAIR and NAVSEA and includes circular and rectangular, plug and receptacle style connectors with removable genderless optical termini. The specification includes connector shells, connector inserts, connector backshells, backshell accessories, and dust caps.

MIL-C-83522

Single terminus fiber optic connectors that have bulkhead and cable termination configurations are the targeted product for qualification testing per MIL-C-83522 (General Specification for Fiber Optic Single Terminus (ST) Connectors). Samples with singlemode and multimode fibers are applicable for this program.

MIL-DTL-83526

Testing in accordance with MIL-DTL-83526 (General Specification for Fiber Optic Circulars Connector, Hermaphroditic) is to screen hermaphroditic interface, fiber-optic connectors to the optical requirements in the detail specification document.

VITA Open Standards

VITA Technologies are a favorite choice in many critical embedded computing architectures. VITA Technologies adhere to the open system architecture definition of real-time, modular critical embedded computing systems. The developers within the VITA community are committed to technology excellence.

VITA is an incorporated, non-profit organization of vendors and users having a common market interest in real-time, modular embedded computing systems. VITA is accredited as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) developer. VITA provides members with the ability to develop and to promote open technology standards.

VITA 46 defines the primary digital connector for VPX
VITA 46.30 standard will define VPX connectors with smaller compliant pin tails that support data rates to 25 Gb/s and higher.
VITA 46.31 standard will define comparable connectors with short solder tails for soldering into blind vias in the printed circuit boards.

VITA 67 (ANSI/VITA 67.0-2019) defines the coaxial interconnect base standard for VPX.

VITA 66 (ANSI/VITA 66.0-2016) defines a family of blind mate fiber optic interconnects for VITA 46 backplanes and plug-in modules.

VITA 42 (ANSI/VITA 42.0-2016) defines the switched mezzanine card base specification for XMC cards

ARINC 600
ARINC 600 is intended to take advantage of technical and procedural advancements in providing mechanical, electrical, and environmental interface information for air transport avionics “black box” design and installation.
