MIL-PRF-64266: Next-Generation Fiber Optic Connector for Department of Defense Applications
Experior Laboratories is qualified to test fiber optic connectors to the newly released MIL-PRF-64266 specification formerly known as NGCON (Next Generation Connector). This connector meets the requirements of both NAVAIR and NAVSEA and includes circular and rectangular, plug and receptacle style connectors with removable genderless optical termini. The specification includes connector shells, connector inserts, connector backshells, backshell accessories, and dust caps.
Qualification testing requirements set forth in the specification are comprehensive in order to address applicable requirements of the Department of Defense. Fiber optic connectors under this specification can be equipped with keyed termini to possibly accommodate angle polished singlemode applications as well. Termini for the MIL-PRF-64266 connector are specified in slash sheets 18, 19, 20, and 21 of MIL-PRF-29504. Most test methods are detailed in MIL-STD-1678 alongside the applicable requirements for optical test equipment and test conditions.
