Astrobotic Griffin Lunar Lander
Structural Test Model (STM) undergoes
Vibration and Direct Field Acoustic Testing
High Performance Testing for Large and Heavy Test Articles
Experior Laboratories was recently selected by Astrobotic to dynamically test their Griffin Lunar Lander Structural Test Model (STM) under sine vibration and acoustic vibration conditions.
Experior Laboratories was selected based on a combination of several factors, including critical program deadline commitment, capability and experience in testing large and heavy test articles.
“The commissioning of our latest vibration system, a combination of a Unholtz Dickie T4000 with a 480 kVA amplifier and a TEAM Corp. T-Film slip table in our high-bay vibration lab, is the perfect test solution for test articles with high overturning moment.” says Roger Rutz, VP of Sales and Marketing. “This new vibration system is a perfect fit for the 13,000lbs Griffin, the largest lunar lander since Apollo’s Lunar Module and will elevate Experior Laboratories’ test capabilities to a new level.” Experior Labs’ partner MSI DFAT Services LLC will perform the Direct Field Acoustics Testing (DFAT) of the Griffin Lunar Lander STM in our 33’ high-bay test facility.
After launching on aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, the Griffin Lunar Lander will deliver NASA’s VIPER Lunar Rover to the moon in late 2023 as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS), under the umbrella of the Artemis program. “With the completion of this major milestone, Griffin is one step closer to serving as America’s workhorse lander for lunar cargo,” said Astrobotic CEO, John Thornton.
